Pinckney, MI and Gregory, MI
Halfmoon Lake is located in Washtenaw and Livingston Counties, with portions of the lake in Pinckney, MI and Gregory, MI. I’ve spent a lot of time on the lake because my family has owned a lake cottage in Gregory for my whole life, and we visit for relaxing lake days every summer. It’s a peaceful lake for boating, fishing, jet skis, and of course - photography and drone videography.
Lake Characteristics and Public Access
Halfmoon Lake is part of a seven-chain lake that drains in the direction of the Huron River. It’s over 200 acres and has both shallow areas and deeper areas for swimming and boating. Water levels on the lake do vary, but are influenced by a dam that’s maintained by Livingston County. There’s public access from the Pinckney Recreation Area, as well as a boat launch where our family puts our jet skis and boats into the lake.

When I’ve visited our family lake house on Halfmoon Lake, I’ve taken lots of photos and videos. The lake is beautiful at all times of day and doesn’t tend to get too busy, even on major holidays. Our family has a perfect view from our living room (with large windows), back deck, and backyard. I shoot with a Sony FX30 and Sony a6600.
