Stars By Name Designs | Product Photography

I loved partnering with Stars By Name Designs to produce high-quality product photography for their new Matcha Tea product line. We took the photos in the owner’s home, capitalizing on aesthetic settings, natural lighting, and home decor as photo props. As we tried different layouts and combinations, we considered their ideal buyers and captured photos to highlight the different designs in this product line.

This Matcha Tea product line drop included stickers, bookmarks, bumper stickers, and product bundles. We came up with creative ways to highlight each product offering and Stars By Name Designs used these photos on their Etsy shop listings. Our goal was to create multiple angles and layouts for each product, giving the business owner multiple options to upload to each listing.

Brand Aesthetic and Style

Stars By Name Designs on Etsy maintains an upbeat, colorful, fun aesthetic, and we matched the product photos and photo props to this style. We included home decor items from around the owner’s home, such as trays, plants, books, and more. My goal was to create real-life imagery, making the products attractive to potential buyers.

When working on product photography, my main goal is to understand the brand style and aesthetic to match the photos to the brand goals. If your brand maintains a dark and sophisticated aesthetic, I want to make sure the photography matches that style. If your brand is light, airy, and colorful, my goal is to capture photos in that same style. Composition, angles, colors, and placement all come into play as we plan photos to match your brand.

Photoshoot Equipment

For this product photoshoot for Stars By Name Designs, I used one of my favorite cameras: a Sony a6600 with an 18-50mm lens. At D Morby Media, we have a variety of cameras and lenses to match your product photography needs.

To create the right lighting conditions, I utilized both natural lighting (from large dining room windows) and additional lighting equipment. I added additional light to prevent shadows or harsh angles by attaching an Aputure MC RGBWW On Camera Video Light to my camera, setting the light to a natural tone and color setting. To further control lighting, I brought out my NEEWER RGB LED Video Light Stick. I love the adjustable settings on both of these lighting devices and appreciate the battery life for product photography shoots like this. This equipment makes my gear portable and easy to work with.

Working Within Creative Limitations

For this product photoshoot, we set up backgrounds and layouts in the business owner’s home. Their marble countertops and beautiful wood dining room table created the perfect backdrops, accented by decorations and props found around the house. It was fun to create product settings with plants, candles, books, trays - and of course, matcha tea to match the product line theme. We worked within creative limitations of what was available in the home, coming up with beautiful flaylays to highlight their products.

Photoshoot Deliverables

At the end of the photoshoots, I provided Stars by Name Designs with a Dropbox folder of product photos, edited to match the brand aesthetic. I adjusted image lighting and cropped each image to deliver the best product photos possible.
